C-c-come on and go watch Be More Chill the Musical at the Old Joint Stock
Theatre in Birmingham!
Be More Chill starts off introducing us to an average high school teenager wanting to be more in life as he feels alone and left out and no where near getting the girl of his dreams, Christine, that is until he discovers a special technology pill that would change his life forever and it does in the most unexpected ways but at what cost..?
After a run in Broadway and the West End, Be More Chill, based on the novel by Ned Vizzini, is spending its Summer in Birmingham and it is definitely a must see especially if you love anything that involves fantasy and sci-fi.
Director James Edge brings a new direction, and the way the show is staged you can feel everything that happens on stage and every move that’s made which helps you get drawn into the story even more making it feel like your a part the show.
Joe Iconis' original music brings us songs that will blow you away especially combined with the amazing choreography by William Spencer.
The music is unforgettable, the lyrics are written perfectly to help move the story along and the way it’s being performed by this cast will most definitely be remembered and is truly outstanding. With the music and a well thought about script (by Joe Tracz), this helps you follow and understand the story easily at a great pace with loads of funny jokes and scenes in it that you won’t forget!

The cast interactions are really good, as the actors come very up close to you and interact with you a lot during the show which helps you stay in the story the entire time.
Alongside the interactions with the cast, the great use of the stage using screens to display all the information you need during the show and to help you understand and follow along is very clever (by Associate Director & Video Designer Liam Alexandru).
The incredible cast bring this show together. Tom Dickerson as Jeremy, Jack Carr as Michael and John Og as Rich and other cast members being: Ailsa Erskine, Shannon Bourne, Harry Chamberlain, Maya Jade Frank, Jessica Lim, Steven Rostance and Tommy Fouweather, give it their all in this show and it shows, the emotion they show portraying these roles truly will get to you.
This production of Be More Chill works well with the staging they have, and a cast who are truly outstanding, do this really well.
Be More Chill has music that is unforgettable and it is a very unique experience to see this show at The Old Joint Stock Theatre so get your tickets as you don’t want to miss this limited run! Would love to see it in the future as it definitely could deliver back in the West End or on Tour.
